Vybz Kartel murder trial - Kartel declares innocence

As the trial of Vybz Kartel and his four co-accused continued in court on Wednesday, Justice Lennox Campbell ruled that the men have a case to answer.

Following the ruling, Kartel gave his sworn statement from the dock in which he declared that he was innocent of all charges.

Kartel outlined to the court what happened the day he was arrested and the events that followed leading up to the start of the court case.

“I am of the view my lord that someone or a group of persons are conspiring against my friends and I...” he said.

The entertainer declared that his hands are clean of  Clive Williams' blood.

“If  indeed Clive Williams is dead I've never sent anyone to kill him nor did I do it myself...I am an innocent man my lord and that is all I have to say my lord” he added.

Following his unsworn statement his sister took the stand to give character witness.

It’s alleged that Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, entertainer Shawn Campbell, popularly known as Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones, Shane Williams and André St John, also called 'Madsus', killed Williams on August 16, 2011. It is being alleged that Williams was beaten to death at Kartel's house in Havendale, St Andrew, over two missing guns.
