By Racquel Porter

A Westmoreland businessman, accused of defrauding potential motor vehicle owners of close to three million dollars, is to appear in the Kingston & St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday.

Andre Poorman, 47, of Amity district in Savanna-la-mar, has been charged with fraudulent conversion.

Prince Moore has the details:

According to the Half-Way Tree Police, in December 2021, Mr. Poorman collected more than $900,000 for a 2012 Toyota Hiace bus, valued at $3.5 million from a man and then stopped communicating with him.

The police say Mr Poorman failed to return the man's money.

In the second incident, in February to March 2023, another man reportedly paid Poorman $1.7-5 million for a 2016 Toyota Hiace bus, valued at $3.5 million.

Shortly after receiving the money, Mr. Poorman reportedly once again stopped communicating with the complainant and failed to return his money.

An investigation was launched and Poorman was later arrested and charged.
