What are the real murder figures?

While the Police High Command has given figures up to the end of February, figures obtained by the RJR News Centre show that more than 350 persons have been murdered since the start of the year.

The numbers show just over 130 persons were murdered in January, more than 105 in February and more than 120 up to the end of March.

The figures show that the St. Andrew Central Police Division had recorded the highest number of homicides.

That division is followed by St Catherine North.

Clarendon, St. Andrew South, St. Catherine South are the other divisions with increasing homicide rates.

National Security Minister Derrick Smith and the Police High Command had promised a reduction in murders this year.

Last year the country recorded a 15 % increase in murders.

More than 1,500 persons were killed last year.
