Antigua: Opposition legislator resigns, says he will contest by-election

Opposition legislator in Antigua, Kelvin 'Shugy' Simon, yesterday submitted his letter of resignation to the Speaker of Parliament.

He said he will contest a by-election in a bid to thwart efforts by the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party to challenge his victory at the general election earlier this year.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne had led the party to a nail-biting victory in the January 18 general elections, winning nine of the 17 seats for a third consecutive term in office.
