Citizens of Barbados and Guyana will soon be able to travel between the two countries using only their national identification cards under a new bilateral travel arrangement.
The measure takes effect on July 1, and will allow eligible Barbadian and Guyanese nationals to travel without the need for a passport.
The announcement comes as both countries prepare to celebrate their 60th anniversaries of Independence this year.
In a joint statement issued Monday, the two governments described the initiative as a major step toward deeper regional integration and stronger people-to-people ties within the Caribbean Community.
Prime Minister Mia Mottley said the agreement represents a practical example of Caribbean integration delivering direct benefits to ordinary citizens.
President Mohamed Irfaan Ali of Guyana similarly welcomed the move, describing it as a symbol of the close relationship shared by both countries and their vision for a more connected Caribbean region.
Further details on eligibility requirements and implementation procedures are expected to be released before the July 1 start date.
