Barbados on Hurricane Watch

The Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a Hurricane Watch for Barbados, as Tropical Storm Beryl is expected to strengthen into a hurricane before reaching the island late Sunday night.

On its current path, Beryl's centre is projected to pass approximately 45 kilometres south of Barbados.

As of 5:00 a.m, Saturday, Tropical Storm Beryl was located about 1,580 kilometres east-southeast of Barbados, with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometres per hour and moving west at 33 kilometres per hour.

Residents have been advised to prepare for strong winds that could damage houses and properties, along with potential flash flooding, particularly in flood-prone areas.

Severe thunderstorms may also cause disruptions to power and utility services.

Marine conditions are expected to worsen, with a small craft and high surf warning already in effect due to above-normal sea swells anticipated from tomorrow night.
