Son of Suriname president ousted from consulate post over alleged misconduct

The son of Suriname President Chandrikapersad Santokhi has been suspended with immediate effect from his position at the Surinamese Consulate General in Miami, following statements he made during an interview with a radio station in the Netherlands.

Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation Minister Albert Ramdin confirmed that Richano Santokhi had disobeyed the instructions of the ministry when he appeared on the radio programme last Friday.

In the interview he is reported to have made far-reaching statements and accusations against President Santokhi, the attorney general, the president of the Court of Justice, and other high-ranking officials and government institutions.
