Suriname is hosting the 15th ministerial meeting of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organisation that was originally scheduled to have been last year but was postponed due to internal challenges within the grouping.
Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation Minister Albert Ramdin, who is chairing Monday's meeting, said this ministerial gathering will not only focus on environmental policy but also on economic and diplomatic cooperation.
He said one of the most important outcomes of the meeting will be the Paramaribo Declaration, noting that the document will contain the collective positions and policy guidelines of ACTO countries and will serve as a basis for further discussions at the UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Brazil in November this year.
