Tropical Storm Erin is expected to begin strengthening soon and is likely to become a hurricane later this week.
The US based National Hurricane Centre, in its latest bulletin on Tuesday, said Erin, which could become the Atlantic's first hurricane of the 2025 season, was located about 2,630 kilometres east of the Northern Leeward Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometres per hour.
The NHC says Erin is moving toward the west near 35 kilometres per hour.
Little change in strength is expected through Tuesday night, but gradual strengthening is forecast to begin on Wednesday, and Erin could become a hurricane by late Thursday.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 55 kilometres from the center.
Forecasters have predicted an above normal hurricane season for the Atlantic basin this year, an expected number of named storms of 13 to 18, five to nine of which could become hurricanes.
