Vincentian Government bets on agriculture to help drive economy

The new government of St Vincent & the Grenadines has designated agriculture one of the four principal pillars intended to drive the economy.

Agriculture Minister Israel Bruce says increased attention will be given to the blue economy, tourism, and the new orange economy.

The term "blue economy" refers to the management and utilization of the ocean environment. It focuses on harnessing the potential of marine resources while maintaining their long-term health and productivity.

The "orange economy" refers to the creative sector, comprising industries that rely on creativity, culture, and intellectual property.

The Minister says a plan is a foot to establish a "green team" of experts who will travel regionally and internationally to conduct marketing analysis to ensure that farmers have consistent markets and pricing for their produce.

Mr Bruce expressed gratitude to the Caribbean Agriculture Research & Development Institute for collaborating with the government to use technology to maximise production.
