The Aquatic Sports Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) has been thrown into turmoil following Wednesday's sudden resignation of its treasurer, Richard Hopkins, who has stepped down with immediate effect.
Hopkins in his emailed resignation to the ASAJ council members, cited what he described as an "untenable leadership situation" within the organization.
In his resignation letter addressed to the ASAJ council, a copy of which has been obtained by Radio Jamaica Sports, Hopkins pointed to a series of unresolved issues involving financial claims submitted by ASAJ president Lance Rochester, which, Hopkins argued, could not be ethically approved without council oversight.
When contacted on Wednesday evening , president Rochester confirmed the receiving the resignation of treasurer Hopkins but noted that the matter will be dealt with internally in the coming days.
