England secured a 3nil series win as the 5th Ashes Test against Australia ended in a dramatic draw on Sunday’s final day at the oval.
The large crowd was left bitterly disappointed after the game was called off with England 21 runs away from victory due to inproper lighting at the venue.
In a dramatic twist to what seemed like a predictable draw after yesterday's 4th day wash out, Australia bravely set England 227 to win in the post tea session after they had declared at 111-6 in their 2nd innings after England were dismissed for 377.
Captain Michael Clarke scored 28 and man of the match Shane Watson 26 against Stuart Broad 4-43.
Kevin Peiterson 62 and Jonathan Trott 59 then made a spirited attempt at the target to carry the host to 206 for 5 when the game was called with 4 overs remaining. Ryan Harris and James Faulkner both claimed two wickets.
England pacer James Anderson says they enjoyed every moment from ball one of the series.
Wicket-keeper Brad Haddin with 29 scalps broke the world record of 28 for most dismissals in a test series which was set by another Australian rod marsh.
With the draw England won the series 3nil and Australia's coach Darren Lehman says valuable lessons have been learnt in defeat.
