Battle for jockeys' championship remains intriguingly poised

Report by RJRGLEANER Group Sports Reporter Spencer Darlington

The battle for this year's jockey's championship at Caymanas Park remains tantalisingly poised with two months of racing remaining.

Saturday's 10-race card ended with "Terrific” Tevin Foster and Raddesh the "Sneaky Fox" Roman locked in a tie at the top of the table after sharing five of the 10 winners on the day.

Foster entered the day's programme with a slender lead of just one over Roman but when the card ended, both were locked on 112 wins each.

Roman guided home three winners including the day's feature event, while foster actually past the post in front three times but was disqualified after initially landing race number 7.

Roman closed out his three-timer aboard Paul Hylton's 8-5 favourite Oasis Jak the 10th and final, contested as the feature Caymanas Park Announcers’ Trophy race for Overnight Allowance runners over 6 and a half furlongs. The 4 year old dark brown filly made most of the running. Foster had a double on the programme and was also disqualified after passing the post in front in race number 7.

Meanwhile, former champion jockey Dick Cardenas was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital for an X-Ray and ultra-sound following his fall in the third event where he was astride the 5-2 chance Power of Faith.

Cardenas was later released as the test results showed no injuries. Racing continues next Saturday.
