Francis and Mills slam IOC's LA28 women's 100m schedule

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Kayon Raynor

Legendary Jamaican coaches, Stephen Francis and Glen Mills are expressing opposition to the IOC's schedule change, which calls for the women to contest the three rounds of the 100 metres in a single day at the LA28 Olympics.

Francis who has conditioned the likes of Shelly-Ann Fraser- Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah to four of the last five women's Olympic 100m titles, says this move by the IOC matches up with the anti-women treatment for sprinters by World Athletics.

Mills, who coached Usain Bolt to three Olympic sprint double gold medals, says the schedule sends the wrong message.

In their press release on Wednesday, World Athletics said with all three rounds of the women's 100m, including the final, taking place on day one, it will ensure the Games open with one of the most electrifying events in sport.
