President of the Jamaica Basketball Association (JABA) Paulton Gordon says he is delighted to have two Jamaicans who will enter the 2020 NBA Draft in June. Former Jamaica College student Nick Richards out of the University of Kentucky and Kofi Cockburn at the University of Illinois are the two Jamaicans slated for the June 25 draft.
Both players who are centers, are the only Caribbean born players entered for the draft. Gordon feels having one or both players drafted in the league could influence more individuals to pick up the sport on the island.
Of the 100 players that will enter the draft, only 60 of them will be signed by NBA franchises. Seven Jamaican born players have played in the history of the NBA. The last Jamaican international that played in the NBA was Jerome Jordan in 2015 with the Brooklyn Nets.
