Jamaica Tallawahs lose to Barbados Tridents

The Jamaica Tallawahs suffered their third defeat of the 2015 Caribbean Premier League T20 cricket series on Saturday, losing by 17 runs to the Barbados Tridents at Sabina Park.

The Tridents, batting first, made 146/7, thanks in large measure to a top score of 59 from 37 balls by their captain, Kieron Pollard. The Tallawahs, in reply, could only manage 129/7 from their 20 overs.

The Jamaica Tallawahs started their response confidently, with captain Chris Gayle showing his usuall aggressive intentions with a four and a six to get the partisan home crowd excited. Upon his departure in the third over, however, the home team went into rapid decline, losing three more wickets in the fifth over to the bowling of Robin Peterson.

Despite a spirited fightback by Nkrumah Bonner and Chadwick Walton who shared in a 67 run partnership, the Tallawahs failed to kick on in the final two overs, having lost seven wickets by then.

It was yet another example of the huge difference the performance of Chris Gayle, captain of the Tallawahs, makes to the fortunes of the team. On each occasion that he has scored a substantial score, so far this season, the team has won. The opposite has also been true: in each match that he has failed to score a half-century or more, his team has lost.
