Judgement reserved in Fletcher vs JRC case

Judgement has been reserved in the case brought by jockey Samantha Fletcher against the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC). The hearing for the judicial review into the matter was conducted via zoom on Wednesday  in the Supreme Court.

Douglas Thompson was Fletcher's lead attorney during the proceedings, while the JRC was represented by Garth McBean who made submissions on behalf of the regulatory body.

Both legal teams relied on their affidavits during the court proceedings. Wednesday's session lasted for two and a half hours with justice Anne-Marie Nembhard reserving judgement.

The court term ends on July 31, but justice Nembhard informed both legal teams that it's possible she could reach a judgement before the July 31 deadline.

The matter relates to a 20 race day ban, which Fletcher served last year, after the JRC found her guilty of breaching Rule 200 of the racing rules by not riding the horse Gone A Negril on its merit on February 4, 2023.
