Morris rescues Scorpions against Pride

Despite a fighting half century from Romaine Morris, the Jamaica Scorpions’ indifferent batting form was again on display even as the Barbados Pride closed on 15-0 at stumps on day one, replying to the Jamaica Scorpions 269 all out in their third round CWI Regional 4-day Championship match at Sabina Park.

Wicket keeper batter Romaine Morris continued to show good form with the bat, rescuing the Scorpions from a spot of bother at 113-5 to 269 all out.

Morris smashed 10 fours and 3 sixes but was left stranded on 97, as the Jamaican franchise was bowled out inside 79 overs. The diminutive Morris added 75 with captain Jermaine Blackwood who made 18 to prop up the home side's total.

Earlier, leading scorer Chadwick Walton who smashed a century in the last match, fell early for just 5 with the score at 10-1. 75 more runs were added for the second wicket before Carlos Brown went for 40.

Kirk McKenzie also made 40 against left arm spinner left arm spinner Jomel Warrican bagged 5-62 and pacer Jair McAllister 3-69. It was a 20th first class five wicket haul for Warrican.

Over at Chedwin Park the Windward Islands were not yet off the mark with all ten wickets in hand when stumps were drawn in their match against the Combined Campuses and Colleges.

The Windwards first dismissed the CCC for 204 with Demario Richards top scoring with 46 and Damel Evelyn making 43 against 6-72 from Darrel Cyrus.

Meanwhile, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes held the advantage at stumps on day 1 of their contest against the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at Warner Park in St Kitts.

The Hurricanes closed the day on 105-1, trailing by 22 runs after dismissing the Red Force for just 137.

Kieran Powell is on 54 and Keacy Carty on 11. Mikyle Louis is the batsman dismissed for 32.

Earlier, Jyd Goolie was one of only 5 players into double figures for the Red Force, as he top scored with 30.

Jeremiah Louis and Colin Archibald took 3 wickets each with Rahkeem Cornwall and Daniel Doram each taking a couple of wickets.

The West Indies Academy were 96-4 in reply to the defending champions Guyana Harpy Eagles 175 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.

Rashawn Worrel 34 and Joshua Bishop 33 were the batsmen at the crease at the close. Kevin Sinclair has so far taken 4-32.

Earlier the Harpy Eagles were disimissed for 175 with Ronaldo Alimohamed top scoring with 30 against 4-43 from Joshua James.
