Parchment among sports personalities to be honoured on Heroes' Day

Reigning Olympic 110 metre hurdles champion Hansle Parchment is among three sports personalities who will be conferred with national honours on Heroes Day in October this year.

Parchment who is at the Paris Olympics to defend his title, is set to receive the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander Class for his exceptional achievements in the sport of athletics at the world and Olympic levels.

Parchment's coach, Fitz Coleman is set to be conferred with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer for outstanding contribution to sport in the area of track and field.

Also to be conferred with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer Class is veteran MVP Track Club coach Paul Francis for his services in the field of sport in the area of track and field.  

Veteran football coach Wendell Downswell will also receive  the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer for contribution to the development of football.

Parchment, Coleman and Downswell were among 150 names published in the annual National Independence Day honours and awards list.

The awardees are to be presented with their honours during a ceremony at King's House in October on National Heroes’ Day.
