West Indies limited overs head coach Daren Sammy says the current group of regional players lack the winning mentality needed to be victorious in a tournament.
The Windies are currently preparing for a 3-match t20 series against South Africa which starts on Friday in Trinidad.
After being eliminated at the Super-8 stage at the T20 World Cup in June where they lost to England and South Africa, Sammy says the upcoming series will be used as a stepping stone towards the main objective of building a winning culture.
The West Indies have won four of their last five T20 series including a 3-0 victory over South Africa prior to the World Cup, but Sammy believes the players are still some ways away from being world champions.
