The top under 18 female sprinter in the Cayman Islands, Shalysa Wray is among six Caymanian student athletes now attending five high schools in Jamaica.
The 16 year old lower sixth form student is now based at St Jago, having decided to further her career in Jamaica after being spotted at the Cayman Invitational meet in May.
She's now under the guidance of St. Jago's head coach Keilando Goburn and is trying to adapt to the standard of coaching in Jamaica.
“Here, the training is more difficult but the coaches motivate you more. If you give up in Cayman they just let you give up but here if you give up, they really push you to do more,” she said.
Wray who represented Cayman at this year’s Youth Olympic Games in China and the Carifta Games in St Kitts/Nevis, is hoping to represent St. Jago at next year's Boys and Girls Athletics Championships.
She has personal best times of 12.18 seconds in the 100 metres and 24.96 over 200 metres.
