Led by a blistering half century from Shai Hope, the West Indies trounced the United States by nine wickets on Friday night with a whopping 55 balls to spare in their Super 8 clash at the kensington oval and gave themselves a massive chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.
The Americans sent into bat found themselves at 51-1 before they were bundled out for 128 in 19.5 overs in front of a capacity crowd.
Off-spinner Roston Chase spun a web around the co-hosts batters with 3-19 and received support from Jamaican Andre Russell 3-31. Alzarri Joseph also picked up 2-31 to reach 11 wickets in the tournament.
Andries Gous top scored with 29, while Nitishkumar chipped in with 20.
In pursuit, the West Indies were off to a blazing start with Shai hope and Johnson Charles as they added 58 runs in the powerplay.
Hope who replaced Jamaican Brandon King smashed 82 not out from 39 balls with eight towering sixes and four sixes in an onslaught against the Americans.
He shared in a 67 run opening partnership with Johnson Charles who made 15, while Nicholas Pooran stormed his way to 27 from 12 balls with three sixes and four.
The thumping victory for the West Indies puts them in a position that a win against South Africa secures a spot in the semi-final due to a superior net run rate.
Man of the Match Roston chase said his role was pivotal in the team's success. The West Indies oppose South Africa on Sunday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua at 7:30 pm.
