Dovecot a temporary resting place for Toots Hibbert, says widow

Doreen Hibbert, the widow music legend Toots Hibbert has stated that Dovecot Memorial Gardens in St. Catherine is a temporary resting place for the singer's remains.

News came Wednesday that the internationally acclaimed singer would not be buried in Treadlight in Clarendon, where he was born.

Relatives of the reggae and ska icon told the Jamaica Gleaner they were not involved in the planning of the funeral service.

Thursday's private thanksgiving ceremony lacked fanfare and was held without a live stream.

Hibbert, whose career spanned six decades, died on September 11 at The University Hospital of the West Indies.

He was hospitalised and placed in a medically induced coma after contracting COVID-19.

Just weeks before, Toots released his first album in ten years titled Got to be Tough, and had just wrapped up the 58th Independence celebration with his festival song entry Rise Up Jamaica.
