Cari-Med Group has announced that it will recruit 60 per cent of the workforce for its new distribution centre in Bernard Lodge, St. Catherine from the area.
Phase 1 of the facility was opened on Friday.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness described the move as strategic, based on the fact that an industrial cluster is being created in the parish.
Mr. Holness says Jamaica is on a path to growth, with the country's net international reserves at $3.98 billion, which is 27 per cent higher than the pre-COVID period.
Cari-Med Group Chairman, Glen Christian, disclosed that the Group has provided more than 1,000 jobs for 800 employees on staff as well as several contractors.
Construction of phase two will begin in April.
