The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that it will be supporting the expansion of some crops, especially based on the demand for them in the agro-processing industry.
Agriculture Minister Floyd Green says Ackee and Breadfruit are being prioritized, in that regard.
The Minister, speaking at the rebranding of listed company Spur Tree Spices last week, said his ministry intends to see to the establishment of "at least" one thousand acres of ackee over the next two years, "and we will provide the planting material, free of cost."
Similarly, he said the interntion is to establish an additional thousand acres of breadfruit trees, with the Ministry of Agriculture also providing the planting material.
"So we are trying to ensure that we're facilitating growth," he said.
