Gov't considering private-public partnership to upgrade aerodrome in Treasure Breach

The Government is exploring a possible private-public partnership arrangement for the upgrading of the Lionel Densham Aerodrome in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth.

Transport and Mining Minister Robert Montague recently held discussions with the Airports Authority of Jamaica and owner of Jakes Holdings Limited, Jason Henzell.

Under the "reverse" private-public partnership, the government would acquire and develop the aerodrome to improve the air connectivity of the South Coast.

The aerodrome, which is currently owned and operated by Jakes Holdings, would be upgraded with the expansion of the runway from its current 2,300 feet to 3,200 feet in order to facilitate larger aircraft.

The development would see to the upgrade of the surface from compacted marl to asphalt, the construction of a "Welcome Centre", fencing of the entire property, and upgrading of the access road.
