The Government is reporting that it has invested nearly one billion dollars on community infrastructure, through its Jamaica Social Investment Fund, JSIF.
Much of the infrastructure work involved schools, as well as improved access to basic services for underserved communities from which more than 40 thousand Jamaicans have benefited.
The information was among data shared at JSIF's recent annual general meeting.
In fiscal year 2011/2012, the Fund managed a portfolio of 108 point 7 million US dollars - 69 percent of which comprised loans; 26 percent grants and 5 percent Government of Jamaica funding.
Contribution from benefiting communities, accounted for less than one per cent .
This year, the Government disbursed 453 point 6 million dollars to support the work of JSIF in community development.
The Fund, during the year, approved for implementation of 186 new projects with an approximate value of 2 point 72 billion resulting in a 12 percent increase over the 166 for last year.
