Word coming out of the sugar industry is that Jamaica is set to achieve strong export sales to the United States this year.
It is reported that exports have been the strongest in recent years.
This has occurred despite minor setbacks experienced during the crop including the recent heavy rains.
"The export has been quite good so far, we have one last shipment to make to Tate & Lyle. This will take place between the end of June and the middle of July, that is just a little under 18,000 thousand tonnes. I think we have done the best we have done with the United States for a long time ... we’ve exported about US$12 million to the US, so this has been one of the better years for export to the US," Karl James, the General Manager of Jamaica Cane Products Limited, told RJR’s Financial Report.
