Jamaica's economic growth for 2022/23 exceeds pre-pandemic levels

Jamaica's economic growth is estimated to have exceeded pre-pandemic levels for the 2022/2023 fiscal year.

The Planning Institute of Jamaica on Tuesday released the latest preliminary data for the January to March quarter, along with the full fiscal year.

PIOJ Director General Dr. Wayne Henry says the 2.7 per cent growth suggests full economic recovery.

For the first quarter in 2019, a year before the pandemic, Jamaica's gross domestic product grew by 1.7 per cent.

Dr. Henry says for the first quarter 2023 out-turn, growth was driven by increased demand for local goods and services.
