It's being reported that some taxi operators have exited the transport sector due to the sharp increase in fuel prices.
According to Allan Blair, President of the National Council of Taxi Associations, the continuing rise in the cost of fuel has taken a heavy toll on the operators.
Fuel price has gone up by more than 40 dollars per litre since January.
Mr Blair told Radio Jamaica News that a number of taxi operators have decided to turn in their road licences as a consequence.
Mr. Blair also said his members are desperately awaiting the the start of the $600 million incentive scheme announced by Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke during his budget presentation.
The plan includes a $25,000 voucher for taxi operators and a revolving loan fund.
