The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reporting that 226 illegal firearms have been seized since the start of the year.
This is a 23 per cent increase when compared to last year.
There has also been a 92 per cent increase in the seizure of assault rifles.
Since the start of the year, the police seized 25 rifles - 12 more than in 2020.
Fifty-two illegal firearms were seized in the St. James Police Division and 31 in the St. Andrew South Division.
