Forty-one new medications will become available through the National Health Fund (NHF) by next February.
Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says the additions include medication to treat several conditions, namely hypertension, heart disease, vascular disease, psychosis, glaucoma, sickle cell disease and epilepsy.
The Health Minister, who was speaking Tuesday in the House of Representatives, explained that the move will increase medication subsidy under NHF by $474 million annually.
At the same time, the drug list for the Jamaica Drug for the Elderly Programme is being expanded.
More medication is being added for the treatment of five conditions - arthritis, asthma, glaucoma, hypertension and vascular disease.
"This will see approximately 21,100 active beneficiaries receiving benefits at an estimated cost of some $42.59 million per annum," Dr. Tufton told the House.
