A mother's pleas for urgent dental assistance for her autistic teen son have been answered.

Tanya Thompson, mother of Daniel Smart told Radio Jamaica News in March that she was having difficulty securing dental services for her son in the public health service, due to challenges with the operating theatres at the Kingston Public Hospital.

She also shared that the cost to get the procedure done privately was prohibitive.

She says her son had been battling an excruciating toothache for over a year, for which he had been taking medication daily.

Ms Thompson says her son's chronic pain forced her to withdraw him from school, adding that she had to leave her job to care for him full-time.

After her story was aired on Radio Jamaica, Ms Thompson says she was contacted by the Regional Dental Director at the Mandeville Regional Hospital, Dr Demster Peart who offered assistance.

The surgery was conducted last Monday, May 5 and Ms Thompson says this has brought her son comfort and a sense of relief.

Ms Thompson has expressed gratitude for the assistance received.
