Bee farmers across nine parishes have benefitted from a multi-million dollar injection following the devastation caused by the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
More than 190 bee framers suffered more than $34 million in damage due to the hurricane.
The $6.8 million donation of supplies comprises sugar and protein supplements.
Agriculture Minister Floyd Green, speaking at the handing over ceremony this week, underscored the importance of the beekeeping industry to the agriculture sector.
"The reality is that it's not just about the profit that you're seeking to make or the business that you're running, but it's trying to ensure that we have a system of beekeeping that keeps our bees healthy, strong and contributing to the overall ecosystem."
"It has been a very tough year for agriculture in general and for our beekeepers. A number of you suffered damage in Beryl. And when you thought that we had gotten past the worst with Beryl, then came Rafael. And then non-stop rains, which have made it very difficult, and we started the year in drought. So just about pollination and bees being able to go out and feed has been very challenging," the minister acknowledged.
