Cayman Islands confirms case of dengue

Cayman Public Health has confirmed that the British Overseas Territory has one case of dengue.

The agency did not specify if the case was imported, but did state the mosquito-borne viral disease "is not considered to be endemic to the Cayman Islands as historically there has been no sustained transmission of the disease."

Government Information Services said in a press release that the territory has an average of 1-4 imported cases per year, but in 2020 and 2021 there were no reported cases of dengue in the Cayman Islands.

The last confirmed cases of dengue in Cayman were in 2019.
