Cayman Islands: Tourist charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, plead guilty

An American man found with a loaded revolver and extra bullets while trying to leave Cayman has been fined $7,500 by the Summary Court.

The defendant, Robert Glasgow Owens III, was charged with two counts of possession of an unlicensed firearm, to which he pled guilty.

According to court documents, on July 26, Owens, his wife, and son were due to depart Grand Cayman aboard a Delta Airline flight at the Owen Roberts International Airport, when security detected a point 3–8 revolver.

The handgun was said to have been loaded with five rounds of high-velocity hollow-tip ammunition and an additional five bullets at the bottom of his backpack.
