Pearnel Charles Jr., Member of Parliament for Clarendon South East, has responded to pleas from residents of communities in Vere, who blocked the Alley bridge on Wednesday and called for the authorities to put in place a permanent fix.

Mr. Charles told Radio Jamaica News that he has been in contact with the National Works Agency and the residents complaints will be addressed soon.

He said he has been advocating for repairs to the Alley bridge and other roads in his constituency which were damaged during the passage of Tropical Storm Ida.

"I understand the frustration of the people. I have to drive on it as well. But I also have to reflect on the reality of our circumstances. There's a process that has to be carried out and so, as a representative, rather than push the people to be agitated, I'm pushing the process to be advanced," he said, as he urged citizens to "exercise restraint".

The Alley bridge borders the constituencies of Clarendon South West and Clarendon South East.

It was reduced to single lane following the passage of Ida.

Residents say whenever it rains the bridge becomes inaccessible.
