Construction of a new building to house the Manchester parish court could begin next year.
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck on Wednesday revealed that negotiations are underway for the purchase of a three acre property in Central Manchester, which is owned by another agency of government.
A section of the Manchester courthouse in Mandeville was damaged by fire last Thursday.
Several calls have been made for the authorities to build a new courthouse due to the increased case volume.
