A cluster of COVID-19 cases has been detected at the Police Academy in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine.

News came Thursday night that the St. Catherine Health Department was called to the facility after a number of persons displayed symptoms of the respiratory illness.

Some 280 junior and senior recruits as well as instructors were tested for the virus.

Forty-seven people, including two instructors, were found to be positive for COVID-19.

The Health Department has ordered that the section of the campus be quarantined and the positive patients isolated.

Dr. Francine Prosper Chen, Medical Officer of Health for St. Catherine, said in coming days, 400 instructors as well as medical and ground staff members who are on campus will be tested for COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health said the cluster has contributed to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Twickenham Park.

Central Village is also on its radar.

Central Village has been named as one of the top 20 communities with active cases of the virus.
