DCS orders 40 digital thermal scanners to help detect COVID-19

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has ordered 40 digital thermal scanners to help with prevention and detection of COVID-19 among staff, inmates and children in its care.

It said delivery is expected within the first week of April.

Matthew Samuda, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of National Security, said hand wash basins and hand sanitisers have been placed at the entrance of each facility.

Meanwhile, correctional officers are being encouraged to wear casual clothing while making their way to work, then change into uniforms before assuming duties, as the virus can be transmitted through clothing.

The officers on parade and at work are instructed to keep a distance of three feet from each other and prohibited from gathering in crowds.
