Dr. Norman Dunn, the losing candidate in the election in St. Mary South Eastern on February 25, has decided to file an election petition challenging the results of last week's magisterial recount of ballots in the constituency.
The decision to file the petition on Dr. Dunn of the Jamaica Labour Party was confirmed by Hugh Wildman, a member of his legal team.
Mr. Wildman expressed confidence in his client's chances of success with the petition, citing the rejection of ballots "that ought not to have been rejected, which would have given our client the majority in the count."
He also claimed that there was a problem of missing ballots, "which we think will affect the integrity of the result," plus other issues, which he said had emerged since the magisterial recount, which decided the result in favour of Dr. Winston Green of the People's National Party.
The magisterial recount resulted in Dr. Green securing the seat by five votes.
