Police personnel designated to drive Jamaica Constabulary Force vehicles will, as of now be subject to breathalyzer tests, where the circumstances warrant this.
Owen Ellington, Police Commissioner, announced this policy shift at the handing over ceremony for new vehicles at the Office of the Police Commissioner on Tuesday morning.
In outlining the strict guidelines for JCF drivers, Ellington said the assigned drivers will also be subjected to drug tests as part of measures to safe guard themselves and the public.
Ellington had expressed concern about the number of vehicles involved in crashes and the cost to tax payers.The vehicles were acquired at a cost of J$300 million.
