An elderly man died in a fire on Gresham Road in Woodford Park, St. Andrew on Friday morning.
He has been identified as 70-year-old Vandyke Atkinson.
About 11 o'clock, fire was seen coming from the five-bedroom house.
Residents tried unsuccessfully to rescue Mr. Atkinson.
Emelio Ebanks, Public Relations Officer for the Jamaica Fire Brigade, said when firefighters arrived, the house was engulfed in flames.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Julian Robinson, Member of Parliament for St. Andrew South East, said it was a "sad situation" but help will be provided to the persons displaced by the fire.
