Fire destroys multiple shops at Lucea Market

Vendors at the Lucea Market in Hanover are assessing the damage from Friday morning's fire which destroyed several shops.
 
The blaze started sometime after 4 a.m.
 
Radio Jamaica News was informed that firefighters from the Lucea station encountered difficulties in extinguishing the fire due to no water in the fire hydrant in the town.
 
The firefighters were able to refill the unit in Green Island.
 
Assistance was also sought from the fire stations in Montego Bay and Negril.
 
Meanwhile, a firefighter suffered an electric shock and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
 
His injuries are not considered life threatening.
