Donville Inniss, a former minister in the Government of Barbados, was sentenced in the in the United States on Tuesday to two years imprisonment for his role in a scheme to launder bribes paid to him.
Innis has until July 29 to surrender to federal prison authorities.
The former minister was found guilty in January on two counts of money laundering and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.
The Eastern District Court of New York found that Innis took bribes in 2015 and 2016 while he was Minister of Commerce in the cabinet of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
The bribes came from executives of the Insurance Corporation of Barbados.
