Former Cayman Islands premier McKeeva Bush
Former premier of the Cayman Islands McKeeva Bush appeared in court Wednesday after being charged with rape and indecent assault.
The police have confirmed that the charges stemmed from an alleged incident in 2000.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service says Mr. Bush, who is 68 years old, appeared via Zoom after attending the Cayman Islands Detention Centre.
Mr. Bush pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Police issued no other comment aside from a brief press release noting that the "senior politician" appeared in court via Zoom.
Mr. Bush told The Associated Press in a statement that he rejected, denied and pleaded not guilty to what he called "this evil plot" and "malicious accusation".
