Government reps and Probation Aftercare Officers Staff Association to meet next week

Wage talks have been arranged for next week between the Government and the Probation Aftercare Officers Staff Association.

The Association staged a two-day sit-in earlier this week to press the government on negotiations under the Public Sector Compensation Scheme.

Kerry-Ann Davis, President of the Association, told Radio Jamaica News that she has had dialogue with the Deputy Financial Secretary who indicated a willingness to have dialogue on the outstanding matters.

Ms Davis said her members were eager and motivated to conclude the wage talks to ascertain their new compensation package.

She said a date had not yet been agreed but the workers opted to suspend their industrial action until after the meeting.

Several public sector groups have been staging various forms of industrial action to prod the government to conclude talks for the new compensation package.

Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke has promised that the government will be working overtime to conclude negotiations with public sector workers ahead of the new financial year.

He recently said that if these negotiations are not concluded before the end of this financial year, those workers will have to wait until the 2024/2025 financial year to begin receiving their increases.
