The government says it remains optimistic about the future of the Trelawny based Melia Braco hotel.

Operations at the property came to a standstill following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There were concerns about its viability and the likelihood that the resort could be revived.

There had also been talks that the property, owned by the state's pension manager, the National Investment Fund, would have been divested.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News on the plans for the hotel, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett said an announcement is forthcoming.

"I am not at liberty to tell you, but I can assure you that something good is about to happen," he declared.

Some $2.6 billion was spent before the onset of the pandemic to upgrade the facility which had not been achieving the projected revenues.
