Independent candidates hoping to create upset

Independent candidate for Manchester Central, Rohan Chung, who mounted a major advertising campaign, is hoping for a landslide victory.

Mr. Chung, who is up against incumbent Peter Bunting of the People's National Party and the Jamaica Labour Party's Rhoda Crawford, said his campaign has been going well.

When Radio Jamaica News spoke with him Thursday afternoon, he said while it had been raining, he hoped the voters would still turn up and still be "willing to change the monopoly of the constituency."

He said he was likely to create an upset of "around 17,000" but said "12,500 is more of a landslide I'm looking for, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed."

Another independent candidate, Peter Shand, in St. Ann North Western, said he was receiving support from electors in the constituency.

He told Radio Jamaica News that while he had some work to do, he is "still not giving up."
