The St. Catherine Health Department is working with the Jamaica Constabulary Force to correct infrastructural and sanitation deficiencies at Glengoffe Police Station.

Grayson Hutchinson, Chief Public Health Inspector for St. Catherine, told Radio Jamaica News that the deficiencies were identified during a recent site visit.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News, Howard Hunter, President of the Community Development Committee in Glengoffe, painted a grim picture of the working conditions of the police officers.

He pointed out that there was just one shared bathroom for male and female officers, containing one shower and two toilets that had to be flushed using buckets.

"The place is infested with termites and rats were running around freely. There were some beds which were some makeshift structures using boards which were probably constructed by the policemen themselves and I also observed that there is a very security concern which I don't wish to discuss," he revealed.

Roojae Kirlew, Councillor for the Mount Industry Division, said Glengoffe Police Station has been in a poor state for a number of years.

He called for urgent action to fix the facility, noting that "the entire station is a mess and a disgrace" and "his heart goes out for the officers."
